Collecting: Your Color Palette
Are you familiar with the Bowerbird? The male species of this bird gathers objects of a similar color to amass a beautiful display in order to attract a mate. I’ve always been fond of their artistic abilities and have on occasion thought of myself as their human counterpart. I too, love to collect and arrange beautiful things of a certain palette.
The last few months we’ve been traveling the southwest (which is stunning btw) and I brought home a few mementos for my studio. A spouted vessel found in an antique store in Scottsdale and desert branches to give it life. They both echo my preferred Bowerbird range of neutral colors.
While we’re on the road in our Sprinter van I like to look for unique things to make it cozy for us, so it feels like our home away from home. I found an etched Moroccan brass tray that is the perfect size for taking our coffee or drinks outside. I store produce in a small handled basket and a macrame rope bag (similar) that I bought in France a few years ago. Handmade coffee mugs and a few vintage utensils are other things I like to make our meals a more pleasurable experience. We also keep the van stocked with my favorite towels that are beautiful, functional, and extremely quick drying. I love the stonewashed waffle towels for the kitchenette and for drying hands in the bath.
We use the the larger Turkish towels in our bathroom at home, but on the road they are really put to use for showers, beach going, picnicking, a quick tablecloth, and a light blanket or impromptu shawl on chilly mornings or evenings.
This summer we’re going to explore Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming, and I’m starting to get very excited about seeing wide open spaces - and wild buffalo. I’d really like to hear about your summer plans. What are you looking forward to?
