How To Source Affordable Vintage Runners

One of my favorite items to source for my own home as well as for photo shoots are vintage rugs. They instantly add so much character, depth, and texture to a space - and give a home that well traveled look. It can be tricky to find good vintage rugs, and even harder to find ones that don’t cost a fortune. But I have a few tricks that will help you and handpicked a gorgeous selection of 15 neutral vintage runners - most of them under $200 with free shipping!

Exactly How I Source Vintage Rugs

There are so many great rug sellers online - particularly those based in Turkey or Morocco, where rug-making traditions go back thousands of years. If you’re looking to find the most affordable, direct to consumer prices, my favorite source is Etsy, and the best tool at your disposal are their search filters! My first step is to enter '“vintage Turkish (or Kilim, or Oushak) rug” into the search bar. Then I narrow it down into the right categories: Home & Living > Floors & Rugs > Rugs > then scroll down to Rug Type (rectangle, runner, area, etc.) and select from there.

Next, I select keywords to narrow my search: antique or vintage, free shipping, price range, material (wool is my choice), style (Turkish, Anatolian, Oushak) and several color choices - beige, brown - I like black too! I don’t enter dimensions since many are measured in metric anyway. I add the rugs that catch my eye to my Favorites, then go back to narrow down my choices and check sizing last.

To save you time, here are some design styles I’ve sourced for you:

15 Neutral Vintage Runners

I’ve chosen a gorgeous selection of neutral rugs becasue I find their color doesn’t overwhelm or dominate a space, and will compliment most interiors. Most of the rugs I’ve sourced below have been professionally cleaned and from my own experience purchasing from these sellers, arrive from overseas in about a week!

Muted Neutral Taupe

This wide runner has a beautiful neutral taupe color palette and a good balance of empty space and contrasting shapes.

Graphic Cream + Black

This rug has a great balance of geometric pattern with a striking neutral palette.

Warm Muted Pattern

With its subtle pattern and rich camel tones, this rug would add a beautiful soft layering of color and warmth to any space.

Neutral Geometric Pattern

The geometric shapes and pattern make for an interesting and well balanced rug design. This piece would add a striking contrast to any space.

Brown Striped Kilim

I prefer a flat weave rug for high traffic areas and a striped pattern works well for many different spaces. .

Geometric Muted Pastels

The soft peachy pink and brown taupe accents in this rug are gorgeous. The pattern would feel ornate, if not for the faded tones and calming beige that allow the eye to rest.

Moroccan Wool Berber

The slightly asymmetrical lines make this rug unique and the plush wool texture would be perfect in front of a bathtub or at the side of a bed.

Hand Knotted Anatolian

This vintage 50’s runner has the best cream, camel and dark brow tones. The intricate pattern designs are inspired by the artist who made this one of a kind rug.

Warm Sunset Hues

This wide runner has a lovely peach hue and muted brown accents. Altogether the color palette is so pretty. This rug would be perfect in a hallway, in the kitchen, or placed in a transitional space between rooms or furnishings.

Faded Patchwork

I really like using these small runners in a powder room, closet or dressing room. The patchwork makes this one extra special.

Knotted Cream & Brown

I really like the texture of this knotted rug, and the solid edges as opposed to fringe, give it a modern detail. I was tempted to buy it for myself!

Olive Green & Dark Peach

The color palette of this rug is stunning - a beautiful muted olive green mixed with dark peachy pink. It’s just the right amount of color without being a distraction to the rest of your room.

Minimal Charcoal Brown

This rug is all about texture! It’s so minimal, and will feel incredibly modern in a home, but the amazing texture keeps it feeling earthy and full of character.

Wool Diamond Pattern

This large hand knotted rug is so gorgeous! The textural diagonal lines and fringe give it so much texture and character. Berber rugs made from soft sheeps wool feel so cozy when stepping out of bed. I like to lay one next to my bedside.

Neutral Bohemian Stripe

This taupe and pink geometric stripe would be perfect in a girls room or in front of a bathtub or vanity. It’s also wide enough for a narrow entry or walk through area.
