Frequently Asked Questions

The Academy - Dordogne, France

Do I need to be a stylist or photographer to attend?

You do not need to be a professional stylist or photographer to attend The Academy. You do, however, have to have an interest in learning and a desire to improve your skills. We would advise reading your camera manual and learning the basic functions of the specific model you plan on bringing so that you can make the most of your experience.

Do you allow refunds?

Due to logistics and up-front costs, all payments are final and refunds are not allowed. As a courtesy, we allow you to make a one-time transfer to a person of your choosing. This must be done before February 1, 2019 and the balance must be paid in full.

What's not included?

You are responsible for booking and paying for your own flights and arranging any travel required to meet our group at the Bordeaux airport.

Do I need travel insurance?

You aren't required to have travel insurance but we recommend it.

What area of the Dordogne is it taking place?

The chateau and excursions take place within an hour outside of Bordeaux. The area is rural countryside, with miles and miles of rolling vineyards and small quaint villages.

How is airport pickup and drop-off organized?

Our entire group will meet inside the Bordeaux Airport at 1pm on June 8th. We will leave the chateau to return to the airport at 9am on June 14th. You will need to arrange your travel schedule to allow for these meeting times. The travel time between the airport and chateau is approximately 45-60 minutes. Please keep this in mind when making arrangements.

Do I need to rent a car?

Transportation will be provided during your stay, including trips to and from the airport. If however, your flights don't align with our group schedule, or you would like to explore the area during your free time, you may want to book your own rental car. Most major rental car agencies are located within the Bordeaux airport terminal.

How do roommate requests work?

After purchasing a space, attendees receive a Registration Form to provide us with details about themselves. If you have a friend attending, please let us know and we'll do our absolute best to accommodate your request. We want you together as well!

Can you accommodate food allergies or special diets?

We can make accommodations for serious, isolated food allergies, such as nuts or shellfish, but aren't able to create specific menus for diets such as vegan, Paleo, or gluten-free. During the week, our private chef will have a variety of options available during meals, including plenty of fresh local vegetables and some vegetarian dishes for you to enjoy. Bon appétit!

What if I don't drink alcohol?

We have non-alcoholic beverage options available for every meal.

Can I come as a helper?

We appreciate your generous offer to help out, but we already have a wonderful team established.

Will there be access to WiFi?

Yes, there is WiFi at the Château. There is also a landline phone available for emergency international calls. Cell phone service is good in the area, please make sure your plan is set for international use before departing.
