I spent Valentine’s Day flying home from New York after a week long styling gig with Country Living. Upon arrival, I was coming down the escalator, and just like a scene from a movie, my husband was there to greet me with a huge bouquet of roses and a heart shaped balloon. The only problem was…I didn’t even notice him. Can you believe it?! I completely missed my sappy romantic movie moment and he had to follow me to baggage claim in order to “surprise” me! Life is like that sometimes, we're rushing through our day and miss seeing the beauty right before our eyes. Thank goodness, there’s also that age old saying - better late than never.
Storage doesn’t have to be strictly utilitarian, and it certainly doesn’t need to be unattractive - there are so many beautiful organizational items on the market right now! If you’re like me, January is a big month for getting my home in check, and I need it to be both functional and chic. Here I’ve gathered a few of the prettiest storage solutions to help you corral the clutter in style!
For many, this week marks the official start of back-to-school and with that, I thought it the perfect time to talk books. Not the required reading lists that we muddled through in school, but ones that peek your interest and keep your mind occupied during the day...pondering when you'll have time to dive back into the pages. I always have multiple books on my nightstand (and iPad) with slips of paper bookmarks tucked in, awaiting my return. I crave variety. Sometimes I want to hunker down with a warm blanket and read recipes like they were poetry. Other times, I have a quest for knowledge. Those thought provoking novels and biographies that will have me contemplating life and calling me to action. Here's a review of a few of my current reads. I'd love to get some of your recommendations in the comments! There's always room for more...
Oh, Pinterest. Before you, I used to tear out a thousand pages from magazines and file them away in heavy binders, not now...you've made life so much simpler. And although I don't pin thousands upon thousands of images, I am able to see my style more clearly defined through my curated boards and pins. Today, I thought I'd share a few of my favorite pinners. The ones I find myself re-pinning from again and again.
One of our favorite shops in Paris was the concept store Merci. The idea or mission behind the shop was to give Thanks by providing a stunning place for customers to find unique, well made products and using the profits to benefit an endowment fund to help the poorest children in Madagascar. It's such a clever way to market charitable giving although we really shouldn't have to be seduced by wares in order to give. Come along and take a peek for yourself...
In the courtyard you're greeted by the adorable red Merci car and a beautiful selection of faux bois outdoor furnishings and potted trees. The displays indoors are spectacular! They had a great mix of modern, industrial and French chic mixed harmoniously together.
Downstairs was my favorite spot. It was filled with wooden kitchen utensils, napkins and towels, picnic supplies, etc., etc. Their selection was a stylists dream! I also adored this simple pendant lightbulb in the shape of a diamond.
And they had a rainbow of Pantone mugs in a multitude of hues. Each one had the Pantone color name and html code number on it...so cute!
There are 3 floors to wander about with mens & womens clothing, housewares, books, apothecary and linens. And lots of cool Japanese paper goods like journals, envelopes, bags, tape, notebooks, cards and much more. Temptations everywhere! Merci is located at: 111 Boulevard Beaumarchais, Paris 75003 The nearest Metro is Saint Sébastien-Froissart on Line 8. Open: Mon-Sat 10am to 7pm
