Autumn Pillow Refresh

Heather Bullard | Pillow Refresh

For nearly a decade, one of my go-to prop sources for luxurious textiles and classic furnishings has been Serena & Lily. I have been incorporating their gorgeous decor into my styling work for years to achieve the perfect balance of relaxed and refined. I particularly love their beautiful bedding that makes rooms feel inviting and layered and their expertly crafted neutrals that blend well with any interior space. I've been so happy to work with them over the years because I truly love the quality of their products.

For a while now, I’ve been wanting to refresh the pillows and throws in a few rooms, some of them were looking worn and in need of an update, so the opportunity to partner with Serena & Lily couldn't have come at a better time and I’m excited to share it with you!

For my master bedroom above, I chose three Ashby Pillow Covers to layer in with my existing bedding of a white linen duvet cover, antique linen sheets, and a cotton blanket. Having a neutral color palette makes it easy to mix and match pattern and texture. And I absolutely love our Flynn Single Wall Sconces, they add the perfect hint of color and make my nighttime reading ritual enjoyable!

To help the guest room reading corner feel extra cozy and inviting, I added a warm sweater knit Auckland Pillow and Milo Alpaca Throw. It makes the space feel like a place you’d want to curl up in and read a great book or relax and have a cup of tea. I opted for a mix of light neutrals - soft flax, beige, cream, and gray to give the space an overall warm tone, without being saturated with color.

  1. If you love the neutral look, but are worried that having all similar tones will look flat, all you have to do is add many varying textures and your space will feel rich, warm and visually interesting. For more neutral styling tips, see this post.

  2. Another way to add dimension to an all-neutral space is to mix darks and lights. A subtle pop of a darker gray among a sea of beige will go a long way in improving the composition.

  3. The best way to create a cozy looking bed for Autumn is layers! For spring and summer, a simple duvet looks beautifully pared down, but in autumn, don't be afraid to pile on the pillows, coverlets, and throws!

  4. I created a short video of me styling the rooms in my home if you’d like to take a peek, here’s a link.
