Styling Work: Kitchen of the Month
This is one of my all time favorite kitchens I've styled for Country Living. Their feature shares 7 Ways to Warm up White. I use the term "styled" loosely here, because it's the kitchen of my friend and colleague, Victoria Pearson and her taste is impeccable. Virtually no props were needed as I was able to use her incredible collection of dishes, pottery and kitchen wares. And before we go further, can we discuss the floor? Imported antique French terracotta tiles....so dreamy!
The California ranch home was built in the 1940's and has all the charm remaining. The two lower open shelves are original (open shelving in the 40's!) and they had the third one made to match. Funny how now we think we are so "on trend" with our open shelves we forget the idea has been around for centuries. I also love the basket storage bins in her lower cabinets. They provide such beautiful texture and contrast to the white.
Her large antique cabinet is from Sri Lanka. I love the deep color of the wood because it plays off her collection of white ware so well. I loved styling it...all those stacks and stacks! Her kitty Peeshee kept us company during the shoot...coming and going to see what all the commotion was about. The Dutch door to the right leads to a mud room that doubles as a laundry, pantry and extra storage space. The added shelf along the top of the windows is perfect for her cookbooks!
The Kiva fireplace was an addition but is certainly authentic in keeping with the year and style of the home. It's probably my favorite feature because a warm hearth is always very welcoming.
This was an outtake but I thought her idea of adding a peg rail below the window was clever. So often we think they need to be up high. This window is right next to the French door entrance and is a handy place to stash keys, market bags and such.
On my Instagram, I shared some behind-the-scenes photos of her guest house exterior, outdoor shower and the interior. You can see for yourself her amazing style and discerning eye for design!
