On My Nightstand

One of my autumn highlights is curling up with a cozy blanket and a great book at the end of the day. Add to that a warm mug of tea and I’m all set. And although the weather certainly hasn’t been “fall like” here in SoCal…I’ve got my reading list ready to go the first chilly night that comes along. If you have any great reading suggestions, please share. I’m always looking for a few new books to pile on the nightstand.

The Orchardist – I’m not usually a big fan of fiction, though historical fiction is the exception. Set against the backdrop of apple and apricot orchards in Washington state, is the tale of a solitary Orchardist giving shelter to two runaway teenage girls and the mysterious and compelling consequences of his actions. This first time novelist is getting rave reviews of her depiction of the landscape and intricate characters. Can’t wait to get started on this one.

Mastering the Art of French Eating – As with many of you, I adore all things French. My love affair with authentic French baguettes cannot be denied, pair with that a hot capuccino at a Paris bistro and all is right with the world. When Ann Mah is given an assignment in Paris, she sets out on a culinary adventure to find the perfect pain au chocolate, the subtleties of frites and frangipane, among many other delicacies, all with boundless curiosity and good taste.

The Noticer Returns – This one came by way of a friends recommendation. I’ve heard that it can be life changing in the way you think, with the emphasis being on our perspective of those around us and ourselves. It is a sequel to his first book The Noticer and although sequels usually aren’t as good as the first, this one I’ve heard, is amazing.

Love Does – The back cover of this book drew me in immediately…”Bob Goff has become something of a legend, and his friends consider him the world’s best-kept secret. Those same friends have long insisted he write a book. What follows are paradigm shifts, musings, and stories from one of the world’s most delightfully engaging and winsome people. What fuels his impact? Love. But it’s not the kind of love that stops at thoughts and feelings. Bob’s love takes action. Bob believes Love Does. When Love Does, life gets interesting.” My mom asked me to let her borrow the book when I’m finished…we were both inspired.

Now it’s your turn, let me know what’s on your nightstand!
